St. Philips Catholic Church in Ozubulu located in Ekusigo local government area of Anambra state was attacked this morning, Sunday, August 6 and several persons have been reported killed by gunmen.
The attackers and their motive have not been established but security operatives are said to have swung into action as investigations have begun.
Willie Obiano, the state governor has called for calm and he has also visited the scene of the attack to commiserate with the parishioners.
According to Channels TV, Governor Obiano condemned the attack and promised to ensure that the culprits are brought to justice.Garba Baba Umar, the Commissioner of police in the state, also confirmed the attack.
It was earlier reported that youths suspected to be members of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) reportedly disrupted a church programme attended by a governorship aspirant in Anambra state.
The attack occurred at Odoekpe, Ogbaru Local Government Area of the state and involved Godwin Ezeemo, whois running on the platform of the Progressives Peoples Alliance.
