How a police officer led us to kidnap Imo Catholic priest, and how he died – Arrested gang member speaks out



One of the alleged killers of Rev. Fr. Cyriacus Onunkwo, Izuchukwu Okafor, has disclosed how the operation was allegedly organized by a policeman, Vanguard reports.Okafor, popularly known as ‘Small’, made his comments when he and his gang members were paraded at the Imostate police headquarters on Thursday September 7, after being apprehended by police.

The 28-year-old stated that the operation was organized by one ex-Corporal Jude Madu, and also disclosed that he did not know the priest would die..

He stated:“I don’t know he will die. We covered the nose of the catholic priest, that was why he died.

“We saw him on the road and we did notknow he was a Reverend Father and we kidnapped him. I was not the owner of the vehicle used in kidnapping the Catholic priest.“I was not the person who led the gang, it was a policeman. When we got to the junction, he asked us to stop in the front of the Catholic priest’s Toyota Corolla, and he asked the priest to comedown and that he was under arrest.

“I want to tell you that it was Jude Maduthat requested that I should get a car and that we were going to somewhere. He did not tell me where we were going.”

Recall that we previously reported that the suspected kidnappers and killers of Rev. Fr. Cyriacus Onunkwo, a Catholic priest,were arrested by the police.The cleric was kidnapped by gunmen in Orlu, Imo state in his car on Friday, September 1.
