Two men suspected to be students of higher institutions in Kwara State were among some armed robbery suspects paraded before newsmen on Wednesday at the Katsina State Police Command headquarters, Punch has reported.
The two students are Abdulrosheed Ibrahim, 20, who claimed to be a 300 level student of Kwara State College of Education, Lafiagi; and one Opeyemi Agboola, 19, who claimed to be an ND IIMarketing student of the Kwara State Polytechnic, Ilorin.
Police said the duo belonged in a four-member robbery gang recently arrested at Bakori, headquarters of Bakori Local Government Area of Katsina State. The alleged arrowhead of the gang, one Ahmed, was said to beon the run while police said they were on his trail.
Both Ibrahim and Agboola said it was Ahmed who brought them to Katsina State on July 29, under the pretext that he was going to introduce them to ram business.
Ibrahim told newsmen he had taken part in a robbery operation, while Agboola said police came to arrest him at a tea joint where he was waiting for Ibrahim and other members of the gang who allegedly went for the operation.
Agboola told newsmen,“I did not partake in the operation. I was waiting for Ibrahim and others at a tea joint as the two Okada (commercial motorcycle) used could not carry me along with them.
“The police came to pick me where I was waiting at the tea joint after Ibrahim and others had been arrested.
”Spokesman for the Katsina Police Command, DSP Gambo Isah, confirmedthe development, adding that investigation was still going on.
