INEC releases statement ahead of Anambra result announcement



The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has vowed to be vigilante ahead of the final announcement of the Anambra gubernatorial election results.

The state keenly contested governorship election took place on Saturday, November 19 amid heavy security.

INEC Director of Publicity and Voter Education, Mr Oluwole Osaze-Uzzi promised that the electoral body will monitor things and assured that everything will go down well.

He said: “Election can be manipulated at any stage, so we have to be vigilant until the final result is collated and the winner is announced by the commission.

“The collation of result from the units tothe state level is on going. Until the finalresult is announced, INEC remains vigilant to ensure that the people’s votes count.

“So we are still vigilant at every stage.”He assured that all votes will be properly collated recorded, transmitted and collated.He expressed happiness at the peacefulelection and the turnout of voters.

He said:“Generally the election has been peaceful and we are very happy. The turnout look to me better than the last two previous governorship elections.

”On the speculation that there was no election at Okpoko in Ogbaru and Umudim in Nnewi North council areas, Osaze-Uzzi said the matter was also being investigated.“It is being investigated and I think it has to do with late arrival or shortage of materials.

“The matter was resolved but a bit late. The community was saying we should reschedule the election in the affected unit to tomorrow, but we are looking at the best option.”.

Meanwhile, Bianca Ojukwu who was thewife of the late Dim Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu has reiterated her support for the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA).

Her reiteration is coming days after the son of the Biafra warlord, ChukwuemekaOjukwu Jr, left the APGA for the All Progressives Congress.
