Good morning! Here is today’s summary from Nigerian Newspapers:

1. An Ilorin High Court has summoned the Inspector-General of Police, Ibrahim Idris, to appear before it next Wednesday to justify the continued detention of Lekan Alabi, Personal Assistant to Kwara state Governor Abdulfattah Ahmed, who was arrested over the April 5, 2018, armed robbery in Offa. This followed a protest by lead counsel to the suspect, Adelodun Ibrahim, a Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN). He also bemoaned the failure of the police to release another suspect over the same incident, Alhaji Babatunde AbdulWahab, the Chief of Staff to the governor, who has been granted bail by a high court in the state.

2. The Nigerian Army has announced a major redeployment of senior officers in Command, Staff and other appointments. Brigadier-General Texas Chukwu, Director Army Public Relations, in a statement on Friday, said the shake-up affected Principal Staff Officers both at the Defence and Army Headquarters as well as General Officers Commanding (GOCs). Maj Gen AM Dikko will now take over as Theatre Commander of Operation LAFIYA DOLE.

3. Former Gomber state governor, Abubakar Habu Hashidu is dead. Report saysHashidu’s death was confirmed through an announcement from a family member who prayed for his soul.

4. Senator Dino Melaye, the lawmaker representing Kogi West Senatorial district at the National Assembly, has announced his escape from suspected kidnappers. Speaking on his ordeal, the lawmaker revealed that he spent 11 hours traumatized in the kidnappers’ den before he finally escaped.

5. Report has it that Super Eagles goalkeeper, Carl Ikeme, has confirmed his retirement from football. The 32-year-old announced the news to his Wolverhampton Wanderers teammates, before a training session at Compton on Tuesday morning. Ikeme took the decision, after consulting with medical experts, following his 12-month battle with acute leukaemia.

6. The Kano State Governor, Dr Abdullahi Ganduje ‎has said that the defection of Sen. Rabi’u Musa Kwankwaso and other lawmakers to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) would not affect the chances of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in 2019.‎In a statement signed by Abba Anwar, the Chief Press Secretary to the governor and made available to newsmen on Friday in Kano, the governor also said Kwankwaso’s defection did not in any way affect the political atmosphere in the State.

7. Deputy Senate President, Chief Ike Ekweremadu, Friday, said the President Muhammadu Buhari-led government was persecuting him and others because of their demand for true democracy in Nigeria. He spoke in Enugu after thousands of residents marched through the streets to show anger over the siege laid on his residence and that of the Senate President, Bukola Saraki.

8. Former military president, General Ibrahim Babangida on Friday described the recent mass defection of Senators from the All Progressives Congress, APC as a ‘political dexterity’. Babangida commending the move by the Senators said it is good for democracy in Nigeria, adding that there is nothing wrong in leaving a party for another.

9. The Chairman, Senate Committee on Banking, Insurance and other Financial Institutions, Senator Rafiu Ibrahim has said Governor Nasir El-Rufai of Kaduna State still holds grudges against Senate President, Bukola Saraki and the entire Red Chamber for turning down his foreign loan request. He also described El-Rufai as a “loose cannon and a liar”, who was among those that got the All Progressives Congress (APC) into the current mess it found itself.

10. The Lagos State Police Command on Friday said it had arrested one Hassan Maiwake, the owner of the fuel-laden tanker that exploded on Otedola Bridge, along Lagos-Ibadan Expressway which resulted in the death of many. The command stated that the owner of the tanker with the number plate, NSR 888 YQ, was apprehended in Kano State.
